What Is Boofing Drugs?

People take drugs in many different ways. Some people snort drugs, some smoke them, other people choose to take them orally, while others still prefer injecting. But there is another method of taking drugs that is not often spoken about. This method is known as boofing drugs.

Read on as Prosperity Haven explores the definition of boofing and why people choose to take drugs in this way. You will also learn how to identify that someone is boofing drugs and the dangers involved with this method.

What Is the Meaning of Boofing Drugs?

The meaning of boofing drugs is introducing drugs into the anus via an enema, in order to achieve a high. Boofing is slang for ‘rectal administration,’ and another term for this method is ‘plugging.’

As with every other method of taking drugs, boofing comes with its own signs and dangers.

How To Boof Drugs

People who boof or plug drugs essentially inject the drug into their anus via an enema. They first dissolve the drug in water and often filter the solution before injecting it. Another method is to make a suppository from the drug, though this results in a slower release.

Can You Boof Crack?

The following drugs are mostly commonly boofed, though people can boof essentially any drug that can be dissolved in a solvent such as water.

  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Meth

Alcohol can also be boofed, though this is even less common than boofing drugs.

Why Do People Boof Drugs?

People may plug drugs for many different reasons. Here are a few of them:

They Have Damaged Their Nose

When someone snorts drugs, they cause damage to the inside of their nose. Over time, this leads to nose bleeds, and the nose can wear away with continued use. Eventually, the septum disintegrates, such as with cocaine nose.

When this happens, users are unable to snort drugs anymore. Some users then turn to boofing drugs in order to receive similar effects to snorting. This path from snorting drugs to boofing is most commonly seen in cocaine users. It is less common with crystal meth users, who are more likely to switch from snorting to smoking crystal meth if their nose becomes so damaged they cannot snort the drug anymore.

Their Nose Becomes Blocked

This is less extreme than the above reason for boofing drugs. Some people boof when their nose is blocked during a heavy session of snorting drugs. Users who boof when their nose is blocked may go back to snorting when their nose is unclogged.

Novelty

Some people boof drugs because it is different from the way that they normally take drugs, and they enjoy the novelty.

Increased Effects

Boofing can increase the euphoric effects of taking drugs when compared with other methods of administration. The reason for this is that when drugs are taken orally, they go through a process where they are broken down in the gut or liver before they enter the bloodstream. This weakens the effect of the high. By boofing, users are able to negate this.

Boofing may also reduce the time of onset, for the same reason that increased effects are seen.

Reduced Risks

Someone may begin boofing because they think it reduces the risks associated with taking drugs. This may be true when users switch from injecting to boofing, but when users transition from other methods of administration to boofing, the risks are likely to be much the same.

Signs Of Boofing Drugs

There are a few signs that can identify if someone may be boofing cocaine or other drugs. These include but are not limited to:

Boofing Equipment

A person may be seen with an enema kit or other equipment that is used for this purpose. While household equipment can be used to boof drugs, people who regularly take drugs in this way often buy specialized equipment for boofing drugs.

Change in Bathroom Habits

They may also be observed going to the bathroom more frequently than usual or spending a lot of time in the bathroom. They may also have blood or feces on their hands or clothing.

Signs of Drug Use

People who boof drugs are also likely to exhibit common signs of drug use. There are many symptoms associated with drug use, and they vary depending on the person and the drug they are using. However, some common signs indicate probable drug use, such as the following:

Changes in Behaviour: Mood or behavior changes may include problems at school or work, withdrawal from friends and family, changes in eating or sleeping habits, and mood swings.

Physical Changes: This may include bloodshot eyes, sudden weight loss or gain, tremors, and impaired coordination. These changes may happen quickly or slowly, depending on what drugs are used, how frequently they are used, and in what quantities they are taken.

Changes in Appearance: This can include wearing long-sleeved shirts to cover up needle marks and wearing sunglasses indoors to hide red or bloodshot eyes, or a change in pupil size.

Dangers of Boofing Drugs

The dangers of boofing drugs are numerous, including:

  • Risk of puncturing the colon if the enema is not done correctly. This can lead to serious medical complications, including infection and sepsis.
  • Risk of the drugs leaking out of the anus and into the bloodstream, which can lead to an overdose.
  • Risk of overdose or of the drugs interacting with other medications that the person may be taking, which can lead to dangerous and even life-threatening side effects.
